He currently shoots for fashion brands while jumping between Directing and DPing music videos.

Film, digital, or both? What medium do you prefer and why?

I’ve definitely favoured film in the past, specifically 16mm. I adore the process and even the limitations that come with shooting celluloid I also like the simplicity of solely using a light meter to expose. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying digital, for me personally, it’s quite a challenge… for the most part, I find I need to work a lot harder to achieve a nice image, so I’ve been enjoying that process.

We love your style. Most of your stories follow ethereal themes, balancing nostalgia and futurism to make for a deeply dreamy piece. What inspires you?

Thank you, that’s very kind and a nice summary of my personal work. I often just get obsessed with a location, muse or idea and build this into a theme that interests me. Most of my personal projects are collaborations with other artists that inspire me.

What do you love about filmmaking? The planning, the process, the result?

It really depends on the job but I usually enjoy getting absorbed in the planning and the process the most.

Music videos or campaign videos, or something else altogether?

An even balance of music videos, campaigns, and personal projects is ideal, I get so much out of all three so it would be hard to pick just one. Variety is key and I'm always looking to expand my practice into other formats and genres.

The world seems to be turning toward video. Any notes for those who are also looking to make the transition into the career?

Learning how to light has been the most challenging for me, so if I had my time again I would prioritise learning about lighting first as it’s generally the most integral part of achieving a nice image. I would also say to just shoot whatever you're most passionate about.
